TikTok’s Creator Rewards Program: How It Works, Requirements to Join, and More

Ever been deep in a doom-scroll session when you come across a post from a creator who says they made thousands off a single TikTok? Then you stop scrolling, do some extremely optimistic math, and start wondering whether your own TikToks could be earning you that kind of money, too.

TikTok’s Creator Rewards Program pays eligible creators for qualifying original, high-quality videos. But who actually gets in, how much can you make, and is it reliable enough to quit your day job and build a creator business around? (Spoiler alert: no.) Let’s break it down.

TL;DR

  • TikTok’s Creator Reward Program pays creators for posting original, high-quality long-form content that performs well.
  • Eligibility requirements for the Creator Rewards Program are strict, with applicants needing at least 10,000 followers and 100,000 video views in the last 30 days to join.
  • Once you’re in the program, you can earn money on qualified views for qualified content. Even so, payouts are unpredictable, so diversifying your income streams is best.

How TikTok’s Creator Rewards Program Works

TikTok’s Creator Rewards Program pays eligible creators for posting original, high-quality videos that perform well. The program is focused on longer-form content: videos must be at least one minute long, uploaded after the creator joins the program, and reach at least 1,000 qualified For You feed views before they can begin earning rewards. Duets, Stitches, Photo Mode posts, advertisements, paid promotions, and sponsored content aren’t eligible.

A creator’s total payout from the Creator Rewards Program includes a Standard Reward and an Additional Reward.

  • Standard Reward: based on the number of qualified views a video receives and its rewards per 1,000 qualified views (also known as RPM)
  • Additional Reward: based on the quality of the content, including how well-crafted, engaging, and specialized it is

TikTok’s website says that to qualify for Additional Reward, your video must:

  • Offer a unique perspective
  • Spark meaningful conversations
  • Demonstrate expertise in your niche

Also, for Standard Reward eligibility, not every view counts as a qualified view. TikTok excludes fraudulent, paid, promoted, artificial, and repeated views from the same account, along with views watched for fewer than five seconds or from users who select “Not interested.” TikTok’s Creator Academy guide also says search views must have at least 30 seconds of watch time to qualify.

Requirements to join the Creator Rewards Program

There are certain criteria you have to meet to join TikTok’s Creator Rewards Program. Creators must:

  • Be based in an eligible country (the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, South Korea, France, Mexico, or Brazil).
  • Have a TikTok account registered in an eligible country.
  • Use a Personal Account.

TikTok Business Accounts and accounts associated with political or government organizations aren’t eligible to join the Creator Rewards Program.

  • Be at least 18 years old; 19 if you live in South Korea.
  • Provide authentic account information, such as a real name and date of birth.
  • Have at least 10,000 followers.
  • Have at least 100,000 video views in the last 30 days.
  • Post original content and videos that are at least one minute long.
  • Keep the account in good standing and follow TikTok’s Community Guidelines, Terms of Service, Creator Code of Conduct, and Copyright Policy.
  • Avoid fraudulent or malicious activity, including buying fake views, inflating follower counts, or attempting to manipulate TikTok’s recommendation or rewards systems.

How to apply to join the Creator Rewards Program

If you think you meet the requirements, you can apply to the Creator Rewards Program in the TikTok app by:

  • Navigating to Profile → Menu ☰ → TikTok Studio → Creator Rewards Program

If you’re not eligible yet, you’ll receive a notification like the one shown in the screenshot on the right below. Click Notify me when I’m eligible so you can apply as soon as possible.

According to TikTok, applicants typically receive a response within three days.

Keep in mind that once you’re accepted to the program, your individual videos must still meet the program’s content and view requirements to earn rewards.

Real creators’ experience with the Creator Rewards Program

On paper, TikTok’s Creator Rewards Program is fairly straightforward: meet the eligibility requirements, post original videos longer than one minute, and earn money from qualified views.

But in reality, creators’ experiences are less predictable and sometimes frustrating because even strong view counts don’t guarantee a consistent payout, and the eligibility requirements themselves can be challenging to meet.

On the Just Send It podcast, Danielle Green (@agreatandterriblelibrary) shared how the 10k-follower threshold has held her back from joining TikTok’s Creator Rewards. At the time of the interview, she had around 8k followers; as of October 2026, she’s up to 9.5k — so close to her goal, so go follow her.

“It can be such a kick in the chest when it feels like you’ve put significant effort into your content,” she says.

In one 2026 Reddit thread, a user said they were accepted into Creator Rewards in May. Their highest-earning video had 240,000 views, a reported $4.35 RPM, and generated $675. They shared a screenshot of their earnings over a four-week period that showed the breakdown of Standard vs. Additional Rewards and their total qualified views:

Comments in the thread from other creators suggest that your earning potential is at its highest when you’re first accepted into Creator Rewards.

One creator reported earning $1,500 in their first month, followed by $500, $100, and then $25 in subsequent months — even after videos received more than a million views. Another said they earned $650 in their first partial month, then $1,600 and $1,300, before their earnings dropped to $450 and then even lower after Additional Rewards stopped appearing.

These reported earnings are anonymous and unverified, but they show why creators should be cautious about treating a single strong month or a viral video as predictable income.

Other Ways to Monetize Your TikTok Content

TikTok’s Creator Rewards Program offers one way to make cash from your content, but it isn’t predictable enough to serve as the foundation of a creator business. TikTok can change its eligibility rules, payout formula, or distribution at any time, and one viral month doesn’t guarantee the next.

On that note, it’s best to diversify your income streams by pairing the Creator Rewards Program with other monetization strategies like brand partnerships, affiliate or product revenue, and an owned contact list. We’ve done a deep dive into every TikTok monetization option that’s worth a scroll, but we’ll repeat the highlights.

TikTok Shop

TikTok Shop lets creators and e-commerce brands promote products through shoppable videos, LIVE streams, product showcases, and affiliate links.

One way creators earn from TikTok Shop without selling products themselves is through the TikTok Shop Affiliate Program. As an affiliate creator, you can browse products from participating sellers, add them to your content, and earn a commission when someone purchases through your promotion.

In the U.S., TikTok says affiliate creators must be at least 18, based in the United States, have at least 1,000 followers, comply with TikTok Shop policies, and complete age and identity verification. Creators with fewer than 5,000 followers may be placed in a 30-day pilot program with limits on the number of shoppable videos and LIVE streams they can post.

Creators can also use TikTok Shop to sell their own products, including products from a dropshipping business. In that case, however, you’re responsible for the broader seller operation — including product quality, fulfillment, shipping, returns, and customer service.

Tips and Gifts

Tips and Gifts allow viewers to support creators directly.

  • Tips: TikTok’s Tips feature lets eligible viewers send money to a creator through their profile, with payments historically processed by Stripe. TikTok’s Help Center doesn’t list eligibility requirements for Tips, so availability may depend on your location and account. If the feature is available to you, you’ll typically find it through your profile or TikTok Studio.
  • Gifts: TikTok Gifts are virtual items that convert into Diamonds and, later, into rewards or cash. TikTok users can buy gifts with TikTok Coins and send them to creators while scrolling through their feed or watching a TikTok LIVE. Notably, you need to be 18 years old and have at least 10k followers to be eligible for Gifts.

TikTok Series

TikTok Series allows creators to package premium content behind a paywall and charge viewers for access. A Series can include up to 80 videos, with each video ranging from 30 seconds to 20 minutes.

Creators can use Series to sell courses, tutorials, fitness programs, or other exclusive content. Viewers can purchase access from the creator’s profile or via a link in a TikTok video. TikTok allows creators to set the price of a Series between $0.99 and $189.99.

To qualify for Series, creators must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have a public TikTok account that’s at least 30 days old
  • Have at least 10,000 followers
  • Receive at least 1,000 views in the last 30 days
  • Publish at least three public posts in the last 30 days
  • Post original content
  • Keep their account in good standing.

Creators with fewer than 10,000 followers may still apply to use the TikTok Series feature if they can provide a link showing that they’ve previously sold premium content elsewhere.

FYI: Videos linked to a Series aren’t eligible for Creator Rewards, so creators should treat Series as a separate monetization path.

Brand partnerships

Brand partnerships are one of the most flexible ways to make money on TikTok because, unlike TikTok’s native payout programs, you’re not required to meet a specific follower threshold; brands typically evaluate creators based on audience fit, engagement, content quality, and the creator’s ability to drive action, not just the size of their follower list.

A creator might negotiate a sponsored video directly with a brand, create paid UGC, promote a product through an affiliate arrangement, or grant a brand permission to use their content in advertising. The exact payment structure depends on the deal and may include a flat fee, commission, usage fees, or a combination of these.

TikTok’s native partnership platform is TikTok One, which includes Creator Marketplace and other collaboration tools. Eligibility requirements for creators to join vary by region, but generally, you need to:

  • Be at least 18
  • Have an account in good standing
  • Have at least 10,000 followers
  • Have at least 1,000 post views in the last 30 days
  • Have at least three posts in the last 30 days

Also, TikTok says videos made for TikTok One aren’t eligible to collect Creator Rewards, so keep that in mind when making promotional content of any kind.

Frequently asked questions

There isn’t one guaranteed rate for every creator or video. TikTok calculates its Standard Reward using qualified views and RPM, or the average reward earned per 1,000 qualified views. RPM can vary based on factors such as average watch time, completion rate, search value, viewer location, engagement, and advertising value.

Eligible videos may also earn an Additional Reward based on how well-crafted, engaging, and specialized the content is. In other words, a million total views doesn’t guarantee a fixed payout — only qualified views on eligible videos count toward your earnings.

A qualified view is a unique view of an eligible video from TikTok’s For You feed. TikTok excludes fraudulent, paid, promoted, artificial, disliked, and repeat views from the same account. Views watched for fewer than five seconds also don’t count.

Before a video can start earning, it must reach at least 1,000 qualified For You feed views.

To qualify, a video must be original, high-quality, at least one minute long, uploaded after you’re accepted into the program, and compliant with TikTok’s Community Guidelines, Terms of Service, and copyright policies. It must also reach at least 1,000 qualified For You feed views.

TikTok generally excludes Duets, Stitches, copied or lightly edited content, looping videos, photo-based posts, videos consisting solely of text overlays, paid promotions, sponsored content, advertisements, and videos linked to a Series.

Estimated rewards usually appear in the Creator Rewards dashboard one to three days after a video generates views. TikTok calculates accumulated rewards during the month after they’re earned, and payments are generally processed on the 15th of the month if the payable balance reaches at least $10 or the equivalent amount in local currency.

Creators must complete their payout setup, which may include submitting tax information. Payment timing can also vary depending on the payment method and any required processing or compliance reviews.
