The Sombrero Mexican Food we know today was first opened in the summer of 1984, but the concept began back in the late ’60s. Javier, the CEO and founder, grew up serving authentic Mexican food in the original Sombrero location, located at Montezuma & El Cajon Boulevard, which was started by his parents. Javier worked in all aspects of the restaurant throughout his youth and into the late 1970s. After the completion of drafting school, other business ventures and starting a family of his own, Javier then decided to re-open Sombrero Mexican Food in 1984 as a quick service restaurant. By using many of the original authentic recipes, providing dine-in restaurant quality, and quick & friendly customer service, Javier began his dream of creating what Sombrero Mexican Food has become today. Today, Sombrero Mexican Food consists of 19 locations throughout San Diego County, Corona, El Centro, Arizona and Texas. We still pride ourselves on providing the same quality and service from when we first opened our doors. Using top quality meats, produce, cheese, tortillas and spices and preparing all menu items from scratch at each of our locations, Sombrero is clearly unique. From our fresh Red, Green, & Chunky Salsas and Hot Carrots to our Grilled Carne Asada, “It’s All Good!” at Sombrero. Some of our specialties include our signature over a pound and a half “Special Burrito” Jumbo Deluxe, our homemade Chile Rellenos & Beef Tamales, and Fresh Supreme & Mexican Garden Salads.
