Institute for Catholic Studies and Formation

The Institute for Catholic Studies and Formation, formerly the Blessed Edmund Rice School for Pastoral Ministry, was founded in December 1994 by Bishop John J. Nevins of the Diocese of Venice in Florida to assure that lay ecclesial ministry in the diocese would continue to grow and to meet the increasing demands of the people in southwest Florida. The theological, pastoral, spiritual, and personal formation for ministry became the task of this school. Students may enter one of two programs to receive either a Diocesan Diploma in Pastoral Ministry or a Master of Arts Degree in Pastoral Theology. The students will be given the tools necessary to gain a firm knowledge of the western Catholic tradition, including a close acquaintance with its origins, development, and kinship to other Christian and Jewish traditions.
